Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
