Devastating News on UPS Accident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of fatalities due to the transport jet that ignited and plummeted has reached 13, according to latest announcements.

Official's Announcement

While en route to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I learned of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 accident,” expressed the city mayor in a social media post. “My heart is with the families, friends and co-workers of all who were lost in this week’s disaster. We will endure this collectively.”

Casualties Named

A release from the carrier named the flight crew operating the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to each UPSer who has been impacted and everyone in our Louisville region – supporting you and making sure you receive the support and aid you need is our main concern,” the organization’s communication stated.

Probe Findings

Federal investigators announced that the jet’s left wing caught fire and an engine detached just after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the aircraft to plummet and burst into a blaze.

The NTSB stated it is examining the jet’s maintenance history, that was in the state for maintenance several weeks prior to the incident.

Flight tracking data revealed the jet was on the ground in that location from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are cognizant that this jet was located in the facility,” remarked an NTSB member on Thursday, not giving a exact date range. “We will examine every piece of repairs that was performed, from the Texas time, right up to the time of the flight.”

Findings of Key Components

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were recovered, and the power plant was located on the airfield.

The units – known as data containers – were constructed to endure crash impacts and extreme heat from infernos, and they appeared to be intact when found amid the crash debris. Investigators plan on analyzing data from the devices.

Jet’s last flight details showed an height of that level and a velocity of that speed ahead of the impact.

Repair Background

Based on aviation authority records from last month, a fracture on a component in the fuel container needed maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it supplies aircraft servicing for the carrier’s jet and runs a service location in that city, refused to comment, but expressed it would assist completely when relevant authorities reached out it.

Operations Resume

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport operations resumed that evening with its overnight or nighttime process, official Jim Mayer confirmed. The three tarmacs at the aviation hub were also open again.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the company’s biggest. The facility employs over twenty thousand people in the area, manages numerous flights daily and organizes more than four hundred thousand parcels an hour.

Community Reaction

A memorial was organized on the evening of recently by the area worker’s group, which supports staff at the airfield, the firm’s largest shipping facility.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents employees, began the memorial with a moment of silence at that time, the rough hour of the incident two days earlier.

“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the mayor addressed the crowd of two hundred. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
